Around 200 insurgents launched a coordinated attack over the weekend on police stations, posts and homes in Baluchistan, Pakistan's largest province. Dozens of civilians were killed, as were many attackers when security forces fought back.
Raids against what Pakistan calls “India-backed terrorists” continued into Monday night. With the latest fatalities, the total number of deaths since Friday has risen to over 200, according to the AP news agency.
Baluchistan is the size of Germany, but sparsely populated. Minorities there face widespread discrimination, providing fertile ground for armed separatist movements.
