26 people were rescued on Friday at sea off Crete by a ship from the EU border agency, Frontex.
On Saturday, survivors said another 22 people were on the rubber boat when it left Libya for Europe last weekend. The dead were reportedly thrown overboard on the orders of one of the people smugglers.
The migrants were reportedly at sea for six days - without food or water - before they were rescued. Two suspected smugglers have been arrested by Greek authorities.
