”We are devastated over the fact that two of our dear colleagues, Ibrahim Eid and Ahmad Abu Hilal have been killed”, ICRC announced on Instagram.

The attack took place on Saturday, according to the committee, which urged for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Hilal was a security guard at a hospital and Eid worked on infrastructural weapon issues, such as problems with mines under and after a conflict.

Intensive attacks

ICRC refrained from accusing any party of being behind the attack. The message came after another day of intensive airstrikes and attacks.

Their death shows an unacceptable number of civilian casualties in Gaza”, ICRC wrote with its base in Geneva and internationally recognized as neutral in war and conflict.

The Health Department, governed by Hamas, in the Gaza Strip said that at least 22 people had been killed in Israeli attacks – but that the death toll could rise as many victims were buried in rubble and the authority lacked equipment and machines to search for them.

Lack of equipment

The spokesperson for civil defense in Gaza, Mahmud Bassal, also said that at least seven people had been killed in an attack in Jabalia in the northern part of Gaza. Further persons were feared to be injured in rubble, but the search was hindered due to lack of equipment.

In a raid on Nuseirat in central Gaza, two people were killed. One of the victims was a woman who was seven months pregnant.

According to information from Hamas-governed authorities, a chief within civil defense, Ashraf Abu Nar, was also killed in an attack on his home in Nuseirat. His wife was also killed in the airstrikes.
