At least 21 people have died and over 30 people are missing after a landslide in Kenya, Home Affairs Minister Kipchumba Murkomen announced in a post on X.

The landslide occurred in Elgeyo-Marakwet county in the western part of the country during the night towards Saturday. The cause is the recent heavy rain.

Rescue work has been suspended for the day, according to the Minister of the Interior.

Aerial photos from the Kenyan Red Cross show devastation with mudslides and flooding. Rescue efforts are being hampered by the difficulty of getting around the area.
