Since Sunday, 46 people have died in the storms across the country, which is already suffering from a severe humanitarian crisis after decades of war.

In Ghazni province, a newborn baby died after the family's car crashed in a flooded area on the way home from the maternity ward, local authorities said.

Neighboring Pakistan has also been hit hard by the storms. Since March 25, 47 people, including 27 children, have died in the northern parts of the country, according to provincial authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In southwestern Balochistan, at least 18 people are reported to have died since March 20. The storms have also caused extensive damage and blocked roads.
