145 people are reported to have been attacked with needles or syringes during the street festival Fète de la musique in France. The attacks occurred during the night against Saturday and French authorities reported them on Sunday.
Twelve people have been arrested suspected of the attacks which seem to have been directed against women. Posts on social media that were posted before the festival urged attacks on specifically women.
Fourteen festival participants were seriously injured. One of them, a 17-year-old, was found sitting on the street with stab wounds in the lower part of the stomach.
Several victims had to be taken to hospital for toxicological examinations.
Fète de la musique was organized in several places in France. The festival is also celebrated in several countries around Europe.
