Ovechkin is already a record-breaking player. Just under a year ago, he passed Wayne Gretzky as the NHL's all-time regular-season goals leader when he scored his 895th against the New York Islanders.
Sunday night's 2-2 tie was his 923rd regular-season goal and his 1,000th overall, including Stanley Cup playoff games.
"It's always fun to reach new milestones and that was an important goal," Ovechkin said, according to NHL.com.
Wayne Gretzky has scored the most goals of all, with 1,016 in the NHL and Stanley Cup playoffs combined. Washington is six points from a playoff spot with nine games left in the regular season.
