Earlier this week, Ottawa acquired William Eklund from the San José Sharks. Interest in strengthening the team with Swedish players continued on Friday evening.
First, Ottawa made a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs in which goaltender Samuel Ersson ended up in the Canadian capital without having played a single game for Toronto. Ersson played 33 games for the Philadelphia Flyers during the season, but had been part of a trade earlier in June.
Ottawa is thus investing in an all-Swedish goaltending pair; Linus Ullmark is already with the club.
Ottawa then turned its attention to the Chicago Blackhawks, from whom they acquired André Burakovsky. Ottawa will be Burakovsky's fifth NHL club.
The Canadian capital club also has Fabian Zetterlund on its roster.
