Artist Matias Faldbakken emphasizes that the scaffolding is an important part of the monument, as a symbol of the reconstruction required after the devastation from Anders Behring Breivik's bomb in the government building.
"It's worth noting that the entire reconstruction - all the construction work - is a result of the bomb. That's important. For 15 years this has been a construction site - and a crater - in the heart of Oslo. The massive steel structure becomes a kind of gigantic fragment from those years," he tells NTB.
More than 300,000 hand-carved stones have been used and the idea is that the many small pieces are united into one large image.
