In Birmingham, he set a Swedish record in the 400 metres hurdles, 47.81, and made it to the European Championships final. However, the 23-year-old left Birmingham without a medal.

But now he gets another chance to run against the very best.

Edlund is ready for the Ultimate Championship, which will be held in Budapest, Hungary, on September 11-13.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) organises the major competition - a hybrid between a championship and a gala - where the very best participate and compete for big prize money.

Pole vaulter Armand Duplantis was the first to take his place in the starting field.
