At Sunday's Oscar Gala, the film "No other land" took home the statuette in the category of best long documentary. The film is about Israeli settlements on the occupied West Bank – and the fact that the film won an Oscar upset Israel's Culture Minister Miki Zohar.
"A sad day for film art. Instead of depicting the complexity that is our reality, the filmmakers choose to recreate narratives that distort the image of Israel", he writes on X.
"No other land" is made by both Israeli and Palestinian filmmakers, and depicts the consequences of the Israeli settlement policy on the West Bank. It takes place in the village of Masafer Yatta and depicts the destruction of the village, but also the friendship between the Palestinian activist Basel Adra and the Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham.
