Last week, the Academy announced that the date for this year's nominations has been postponed. Now, the organizers have decided to move the entire ceremony online due to the devastation in Los Angeles.
The extremely prestigious and glamorous lunch that is always held for the nominees is being cancelled altogether.
"We are all completely devastated by the impact of the fire and the enormous losses that so many have experienced in our community. The Academy has always been a unifying force within the film industry and is firmly determined to face the difficulties together," says Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Chairman Janet Yang in a statement.
The names of the nominees will instead be revealed in a virtual event on January 23.
