"As many probably understand, I will no longer be playing hockey," writes the 35-year-old in an open letter on Skellefteå's website.
The Stockholm native directs a thank you to everyone who has supported him along the way.
"When hockey was the last thing I wanted to think about, my teammates were fantastic friends who made me never feel alone in how I felt. Today, I'm feeling much better and occasionally step onto the ice to coach my oldest son's hockey team. It took time to get here, and I needed distance, but now I'm feeling the joy of the sport again," writes Möller.
The forward, with Spånga IS as his parent club, moved to North America as a teenager and represented the Los Angeles Kings for three NHL seasons before joining Skellefteå in 2011. During his time in Skellefteå, Möller played a total of ten seasons, and concludes his letter with a message to all young athletes:
"Don't be too hard on yourselves, have fun when you do your best. Not every match can be perfect."
Oscar Möller's list of achievements includes, among other things, two Swedish Championship gold medals with Skellefteå and a World Championship bronze medal with Tre Kronor.
Skellefteå writes in their thank you to Möller that he is forever a black-and-yellow hero:
"You led the team by spreading joy, working hard every day, and being an exemplary teammate."
