Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo is asking for forgiveness from residents of China, Japan and South Korea. This is in response to a racism scandal involving members of parliament from the ruling True Finns party.

The "sincere apology" is presented via the Finnish embassies in the countries and on social media, writes Svenska Yle .

The background is a picture posted by Sarah Dzafce, who was crowned Miss Finland in September, where she uses her fingers to pull the skin around her eyes to the side to create a caricature of Asians.

Dzafce was stripped of his title and apologized to the “Asian community.”

But true Finns Juho Eerola and Kaisa Garedew as well as MEP Sebastian Tynkkynen posted similar pictures. This prompted Orpo, who leads the Samlingspartiet, to condemn the actions and react strongly against the coalition party.

“These statements are in complete conflict with the Finnish government's values of equality and inclusion,” the apology states.
