When the Netflix series “The Museum of Innocence” premieres on Friday, Orhan Pamuk is finally satisfied. The series is based on the Turkish Nobel Prize winner’s romance novel of the same title – but when he first got to see the script for the upcoming series, he was “horrified,” The New York Times writes.
The American production company had made major changes to the plot. Pamuk hired a lawyer and finally won – after two years – the battle against Hollywood.
In 2022, a Turkish production company was hired instead. This time, Orhan Pamuk did not approve a contract or accept payment until he had given his opinion on the nine-episode script. He also chose a female Turkish director – Zeynep Günay Tan – in the hope of focusing more on the female protagonist.
