On March 21 this year, 20-year-old Hugo Mosshagen was shot dead in a residential area in Väster, Örebro. He was found with gunshot wounds and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A coincidence
Hugo Mosshagen did not appear in any police records and had no known connections to the criminal gang environment.
The preliminary investigation is now closed, because the suspected murderer has died.
"We suspected an adult man with weapons experience. Through film material we can place him in close proximity to the crime scene at the time, and the investigation has shown that he was alone in the planning and execution. No one else is involved," says investigation leader Anders Mullfors at a press conference.
In the investigation, the police have concluded that Hugo Mosshagen was at the scene by chance and that he was not the intended target, but rather another person whom the police call plaintiff B.
The investigation has provided a clear picture of the course of events, according to prosecutor Jakob Holmberg.
It was plaintiff B who had a connection to the crime scene. Few people knew that plaintiff A (Hugo Mosshagen) would be at the scene, says Anders Mullfors.
The preliminary investigations included the crime categories of murder of the deceased and preparation for murder of plaintiff B. Aggravated weapons offences have also been part of the preliminary investigation.
In May, a person was arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting murder, but the person was later removed from the investigation and released.
Comprehensive confidentiality
The police know how the suspect died and when it happened, but refer to confidentiality. The police also do not want to answer whether the suspect had time to be interviewed before the person died.
We are obliged to respect the laws that exist regarding confidentiality. Among other things, confidentiality to protect an individual and a rule in the Criminal Code called defamation of the deceased, which means that we must omit information that can lead to a person or a name, says Jakob Holmberg.
