The party focused on securing a seat in parliament, but looks set to have to settle for local success.

"Then we will continue to steam ahead as usual in the municipality and region and I may have an extra minute to sleep as well," writes the party's Markus Allard in a Facebook post on Sunday evening.

When all but two electoral districts in the municipality are counted, the Örebro Party has 17.2 percent, making it the largest party in the municipality after the Social Democrats.

The preliminary figures mean that the party has more than doubled since the last election, when it received just over 7.2 percent.
