"I regret that we did not contact the police after the account was suspended. I believe an apology is necessary to acknowledge the harm and loss that has been inflicted on your community," Altman writes in an apology addressed to the small Canadian town of Tumbler Ridge, where the mass shooting occurred.

The company has been criticized by politicians in Canada for not raising the alarm and has also been sued by the family of one of the victims in the shooting.

Sam Altman promises closer contact with authorities going forward.
