This year's Wimbledon tennis has begun in scorching heat and Ons Jabeur seemed to be struggling already from the start against Bulgarian Tomova.
Jabeur, in the final both 2022 and 2023, wiped away tears already after the fifth game when she took a longer medical timeout.
Tomova won the first set with 7–6 (7–5) and followed it up by going ahead 2–0 in the second set.
Then Jabeur had had enough.
I had not expected not to feel well. I have trained quite well the last few days, says Jabeur whose year has been marked by various health problems.
The 30-year-old has at best been ranked second in the world and has played three Grand Slam finals – in addition to the two in Wimbledon also one in US Open – without winning.
