Of the country's 80 special protection shelters that are supposed to accommodate extra many people, only one has been upgraded, reports SVT News.

MSB is working on reviewing all the larger shelters that exist in the country. It's about shelters where a total of over 100,000 people can fit. All will be upgraded to modern standard.

So far, it's only one of these, on Kungsholmen in Stockholm, that has been modernized. This one is supposed to accommodate 1,200 people. Next year, two more will be completed, one in Stockholm and one in Gothenburg.

MSB has been tasked with inventorying the country's total 64,000 shelters between 2025 and 2030. In total, work has begun on about thirty of the special shelters, a task that alone in the last year is estimated to cost 85 million kronor.

According to MSB, it's difficult to know how long it will take before all shelters are modernized, since one still doesn't know what condition they are in.
