The Medical Products Agency has submitted proposals for implementing parts of the investigation into abortion legislation that was published a year ago.
It was proposed that the entire medical abortion process should be able to be done at home. Today, the first of two medications must be taken at a healthcare facility. According to the proposal from the Medical Products Agency, the woman should continue to visit a healthcare facility to access the medications but be able to take them home with her.
However, whether the treatment should take place at home or in a healthcare facility should still be decided in consultation with the treating physician.
Picking up medications at a pharmacy without visiting a healthcare facility needs further investigation.
The issue is complex and needs to involve several actors, says Sophia Brodin, project manager at the Swedish Medical Products Agency.
