Every fifth municipal housing company is operating at a loss, according to a new report from Sveriges Allmännytta.

The reasons for the red figures include the fact that the cost of interest, electricity and heating has increased and more and more apartments are standing empty, which means reduced revenue, reports Sveriges radio Ekot.

The report is based on information from 254 member companies, which together own 96 percent of the municipally owned housing stock.
