Of those who asked AI for political information or advice, one in five said the answers had a major impact on how they voted.

"The interesting thing is that even though AI has become a much more common source of political information, that has not automatically meant that voters placed great importance on the answers when they voted," says Jannike Tillå, head of public benefit and communications at the Internet Foundation (a Swedish internet research organization), in a press release.

Social media is also important for parties seeking to reach young voters. According to the survey, Instagram stands out as the most important platform. More than one in two people cited “Insta” as an important source of political information.

Only 38 percent considered the party leadership debates important to their election choice.

The report was produced by the Internet Foundation and is a follow-up to the report "Swedes and the Internet: Election Special 2026." A total of 2,142 web interviews were conducted with people aged 18–84 from September 17 to 27, 2026, through Novus' randomly recruited Sweden panel.

The results are weighted to reflect known population figures.
