"I have recovered at home and am feeling better," he wrote on Instagram and continued:
“I have been forced to review my schedule in the coming months and have to reduce the number of concerts.”
He has not said what he was being treated for.
Zayn will still perform a reduced number of shows in his native UK in May, followed by a leg in Mexico in June and in South America in October.
American entertainment magazine Variety reports that ticket sales for his concerts in the United States have been weak.
Zayn Malik left One Direction in 2015. The following year, the boy band disbanded.
