Two more people were injured when clashes broke out between police and protesters in Mathare, AFP reporters said.
Last week, the capital Nairobi was virtually shut down by police in connection with the second anniversary of anti-government protests in 2024. As a result of the police presence, the day passed without violence, but a large number of activists were arrested.
Tuesday's demonstrators protested against the arrests, particularly of two activists who have not been heard from since they were abducted.
Deadly protests erupted in June last year in connection with the anniversary. The combined death toll from the 2024 and 2025 protests is close to 130, according to Kenyan authorities.
