A man in the municipality of Tordera has died after a wall collapsed in the storm, Spanish media report. Another person in the region has died and one is missing, public service broadcaster RTVE reports.
Citizens living near the Besòs River, which flows through Barcelona, are being urged to avoid ground floors and basements. The river is at risk of flooding because of the volume of water, and the rain is expected to continue into Sunday, writes El País.
The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also issued a call for Swedes who are in the area to follow developments via Spain's national weather service AEMET, as well as local authorities and the emergency services.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also writes that people should stay away from watercourses, ravines and other flood-prone areas, and seek higher ground if water levels rise.
