Following a collision between two vehicles on the E6 in Vellinge municipality, two other cars traveling in the same direction drove off the road, the police write. One person was later confirmed to have died in the accident.
"We have a man in his 30s who has died," says Ted Eriksson, on-call investigation officer at Ystad police, to Sydsvenskan.
A total of four people were taken to hospital. One person has serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to police.
The accident was reported shortly after 7:30 p.m. and the incident is being investigated as negligent driving.
Road conditions are difficult in many places in Skåne due to drifting snow and several accidents have occurred during the evening.
