The attacks were carried out in Thessaloniki against three politicians, all of whom belong to Greece's ruling New Democracy party. Homemade firebombs are believed to have exploded every few minutes outside three different apartment buildings, injuring several people.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in the evening that the mother of one of the politicians had died from her injuries.
The death "confirms the murderous and inhuman nature of the blind violence that occurs in public space," Mitsotakis said in a statement.
