"I can confirm that there was a shooting," police spokesperson Pelle Vamstad said.
The incident was reported at 10 p.m. on Friday, when police received several calls about banging. An injured person was found and taken to hospital, but police have no information on the extent of the injuries.
During the night, we arrested a man in his 20s, suspected of the shooting, Vamstad said.
A major police operation was under way during the evening, and all train traffic to and from Gävle was temporarily stopped. Police have knocked on doors, spoken to witnesses and will review any surveillance footage. The suspect will also be questioned during the day.
According to Vamstad, it is too early to say whether the incident is connected to gang crime.
"It's of course something we're looking at from square one," he said.
