During the years 2021–2024, the Ombudsman conducted inspections at several police arrests in different parts of Sweden, to examine the situation for children deprived of their liberty.
It then emerged, among other things, that there were places where children were regularly held in arrest cells, despite the fact that according to a provision from 2021, it is stated that arrested and detained children may only be held in police arrest if it is absolutely necessary.
"The observations I made during the inspections make me want to follow up on the issue of children being held in custody in police arrest," says Per Lennerbrant in a press release.
