It was in connection with the American president inviting the gold-winning men's team to the White House that he added that he also had to invite the women's team to avoid being "impeached."
Several of the players laughed at the joke, but now Boston star Charlie McAvoy, among others, regrets it.
"I'm definitely sorry for how we reacted in that moment. Things happened very quickly," he says.
Matthew Tkachuk, who lives in Florida, points out how close the two teams are.
"We love the women's team and they love us," he says.
The women's team later declined the invitation, citing logistical reasons.
