American track and field star Fred Kerley was arrested in southern Florida on Thursday evening, suspected of violence against an official.

Olympic Games medalist is said to have gotten into a fight with police officers when, according to a police report, he disrupted an ongoing operation by trying to push his way to his car. Kerley resisted physically when the police tried to apprehend him, whereupon he was wrestled to the ground after a police officer used his stun gun.

The 29-year-old sprinter was taken to a hospital after being arrested before being taken to a detention center.

Kerley won Olympic Games silver on the 100 meters in Tokyo 2020 and bronze on the same distance at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

The USA's athletics federation has declined to comment on the incident.
