Ski-cross favorite Sandra Näslund was eliminated in the round of 16 of the World Cup competition in Val di Fassa, Italy. She lost a ski, which is not allowed, so she was eliminated, said national team captain Eric Iljans.

She was not injured in the situation, Iljans tells TT. Näslund will therefore miss Friday's final session in the competition.

After two seasons ruined by injuries, the 29-year-old has made a successful comeback this winter, winning five World Cup events.

She is one of Sweden's biggest contenders for Olympic gold in February in Italy, where the ski cross competitions are held in Livigno.

Näslund arrives there as the reigning Olympic champion after her gold medal in Beijing 2022.

A total of two World Cup events are being held in Val di Fassa this week. Näslund will have a chance for revenge on Saturday, when the qualifying and final sessions are held on the same day, according to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation website.
