The hockey goalie already asked Winnipeg to trade him this summer, the NHL writes on its website.

"I have tried to handle the situation quietly and respectfully to give the organization time to explore options. Ahead of training camp, I felt it was important to go public. I have not changed my mind, I believe a move is the best way forward for me and my family," the 33-year-old said in a statement.

Hellebuyck has been named the NHL's best goaltender three times and was voted the league's most valuable player in the 2023-24 season. He played 11 seasons in Winnipeg.

He led the United States to Olympic gold in Milan-Cortina in February.
