+ NHL players back
For the first time since Sochi 2014, NHL players are back in Olympic ice hockey. In Tre Kronor's opening match, the national team will face host nation Italy at the Santa Giulia Arena. Sweden enters the match as huge favorites, and the last time the countries met, at the 2019 World Championships, Tre Kronor won 8–0.
+ The reigning Olympic champions make their entrance
Team Edin arrives at the Olympics as reigning Olympic champions. They too will face the host nation in the first group stage. The team arrives in Cortina in good shape after winning the European Curling Championships at the end of November and is one of Sweden's big medal hopes. The team consists of Simon Olofsson, Christoffer Sundgren, Rasmus Wranå, Oskar Eriksson and Niklas Edin.
+ First medal chance for Elvira Öberg
Biathlete Elvira Öberg was surprisingly knocked out of the opening mixed relay. In the distance race, which is decided over 15 kilometers, she gets the chance to chase her third individual Olympic medal after two silvers from Beijing 2022.
