Italy's Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini is demanding a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 55-year-old's death.
The man was guarding the ice rink in Cortina, where curling will be played during the Olympics in a month. Temperatures overnight were 10-12 degrees below zero.
The authorities in Cortina say they are "saddened and concerned about the death."
