This fall, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll end up watching a TV show featuring Isabella Wranå, even if you’re not the least bit interested in curling.
SVT’s new comedy series “Agent-ish,” about a sports agency, premieres on October 30. Wranå plays herself.
Together with her brother and teammate Rasmus Wranå, she is also competing in the TV4 programme “Hela kändis-Sverige bakar.”
It was an incredibly fun experience, and we learned a lot. It’s very rare for any of us to bake, but we have a strong competitive instinct and refuse to give up. You can get pretty far with that, she says of “Hela kändis-Sverige bakar.”
Curling fever
Her new television career would hardly have been possible without the Olympic success in Italy in February.
Together with Rasmus Wranå, she sparked curling fever by winning gold in the mixed doubles. Isabella Wranå also won over the public with her showmanship in videos on social media. In several of them, she was joined by her older brother.
Her Instagram following saw the biggest increase, rising from around 2,000 before the Olympics to more than 72,000 today. On TikTok, she now has more than 40,000 followers.
I’ve always loved dancing and singing, and I’ve been posting funny videos for years. But it wasn’t until the Olympics that many more people discovered them and they went viral. I’ve received lots of lovely comments from all over the world, and it inspires me to keep going.
“Absolutely crazy”
The increase in attention is far greater than the 29-year-old ever dared to dream of.
When we got home, it became even clearer what we had done. It was absolutely crazy. Lots of people have come up to congratulate me. Even a bunch of teenage boys have stopped me and asked to take pictures. In the past, we curlers may not have been the coolest in those circles, haha.
“Fantastic”
Isabella Wranå has also seen children playing curling with cones and stones, and has recorded videos of her own.
It’s great to be involved and help give the sport a boost. Often, only the people closest to us are watching when we play, but at the Olympics, people from all over the world were watching. It’s something we’ll try to make the most of, and it’s fun to give a little extra of yourself. My friends say I’m 100 percent myself in my videos.
The Olympic gold medal-winning Team Hasselborg chose to skip the European Championships. Sweden will instead be represented by Team Wranå, consisting of Isabella Wranå, Almida de Val, Maria Larsson, Linda Stenlund and reserve Moa Dryburgh.
They face Estonia on October 27, Denmark on October 28, Scotland and Lithuania on October 29, and Turkey on October 30.
On the men’s side, Niklas Edin ended his career this spring after winning one Olympic gold medal, eight World Championship gold medals and eight European Championship gold medals. Three-quarters of the team remains and forms Team Eriksson, consisting of Oskar Eriksson, Rasmus Wranå, new recruit Simon Olofsson, Christoffer Sundgren and reserve Alexander Lindström.
They face Norway and Spain on October 28, Switzerland on October 29, the Czech Republic on October 30, and Poland on October 31.
The semifinals and finals will be played on October 31 and November 1.
