Olympic debutant Martin Nordqvist surprised in Italy and made it to the big-air final. The 22-year-old was surprised. "Absolutely unbelievable," he said.

Olympic debutants Nordqvist & Co had a lot to celebrate.

The 22-year-old started the qualifying session strong, with 90.00 points, and continued to jump steadily in the remaining two attempts. With a total of 173.50 points, he finished eleventh - thus securing a place in the final on Tuesday.

Absolutely incredible. I didn't really know what to expect today. There are a lot of good skiers here, so yeah, it feels incredible to be competing in the final in my first Olympics.

He was then praised by his national teammates Jesper Tjäder, who missed the final, and injured Henrik Harlaut.

He does the best tricks he really knows and... So, so cool.

Tjäder:

Martin skied so well today, it was really fun to watch. Awesome.

After his first jump, Nordqvist saw his brother and a group of friends at the site in Livigno.

They hadn't told me before and I saw them here right when I landed the trick. It was super fun.
