Reigning Olympic champions Jonatan Hellvig and David Åhman are advancing to the round of 16 in the World Championship tour in João Pessoa. The Swedes defeated the home pair Andre/Renato with 2–0 in sets.

After losing in the group final against another Brazilian pair, George/Saymon, Jonatan Hellvig and David Åhman were forced to an extra knockout round in the playoffs. But Andre/Renato could not stop the blue and yellow duo, Olympic Games gold medalists in Paris last year, from advancing in João Pessoa.

Hellvig/Åhman won in two straight sets, 21–14, 21–16, and are clear for the round of 16. It will be played on Saturday, against the Austrians Tim Berger/Timo Hammarberg.

Previously, the second Swedish pair, Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson, are also advancing to the round of 16. For them, a match against the Norwegian world top seeds Anders Mol and Christian Sørum awaits.
