"I feel honored by the opportunity to be team captain of Tre Kronor for the third time in my career. We have already started to build a strong team spirit and we will continue to build it every day during this championship," said the 34-year-old Toronto defender in a statement issued by the national team.
Tre Kronor also announced that Mattias Ekholm and Lucas Raymond have been appointed assistant team captains.
Sweden begins the World Cup group stage against Canada in Fribourg, Switzerland, on Friday.
