According to the industry association, 4.9 million barrels of oil passed through the Great Belt and the Sound daily during the first half of 2025.

That's the same amount of oil that passed through the Suez Canal during the same period and an increase of 58 percent since 2021.

The Swedish Coast Guard has not made any of its own calculations but confirms an increase in both exports and imports, reports SVT Skåne.

The Coast Guard can confirm a significant increase in oil transports from Russian oil ports but also of non-sanctioned oil into Baltic Sea ports, said Mattias Lindholm, press officer at the Coast Guard, to SVT.
