The ship Eureka was boarded near Shabwa province and then began to steer towards the coast of Somalia, according to the Yemeni Coast Guard, affiliated with the war-torn country's internationally recognized government.

According to data from the maritime monitoring site Marine Traffic, the ship sails under the Togolese flag and was at a port in the United Arab Emirates at the end of March.

Extensive piracy occurred off the coast of Somalia in the 2000s, but the problem decreased significantly after international ship patrols in the area.

So far, there are no signs that Saturday's incident is connected to the ongoing major conflict in the region, triggered by the U.S. and Israel's war against Iran.
