The attack took place on Tuesday. According to Russian authorities, the ship, which was said to be sailing under the Liberian flag, was attacked by naval drones.
The entire crew, 23 people from India, were reportedly rescued. However, putting out the fire was described as difficult because the blaze made it hard to approach the ship, at least initially.
The ship was carrying crude oil from Novorossiysk, Russia, to India.
