A large oil spill has occurred at a power station in Bærum in Norway, following a break-in and vandalism.

Between 50 and 60 tons of oil are estimated to have leaked out since the break-in occurred over the weekend.

"It looks like someone has cut through the fence and opened a lid on a transformer that stands there, so that oil has started flowing out", Thomas Fennefoss at Statnett announces in a press release.

The authorities discovered the vandalism and leak on Sunday afternoon. No suspect has been arrested for the act.

Bærum is located in the western Oslo area.
