The US president is currently on a state visit to China. On Friday night, local time in Sweden, Donald Trump claimed that the country he is visiting wants to buy more American oil, without giving further details.
"They have agreed that they want to buy oil from the United States. They are going to go to Texas. We are going to start sending Chinese ships to Texas, Louisiana and Alaska," Trump said in an interview with Fox News.
Following the statement, the July price of North Sea oil and the June price of US WTI have both risen by about 1.5 percent, CNBC reports. Prices were at around $107.3 and $102.7 per barrel, respectively, this morning.
China has not confirmed Trump's claim.
