Oil prices fall sharply after Iran-US peace talks

US President Donald Trump claims the Iran war is “over” and insists the countries are close to signing a memorandum of understanding, which is said to include a ceasefire and further talks.

The Iranian news agency Mehr published an alleged draft this morning of an agreement in which the US will, among other things, withdraw forces, lift sanctions, and finance reconstruction in Iran. It is claimed that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened "under Iranian direction."

On Thursday evening, before Donald Trump announced, among other things, that the United States had called off its planned attacks on Iran, a barrel of North Sea oil cost around $93.
