Oil prices fall on report of US plan for Middle East embassies to reopen

The price quote is the first below $90 per barrel since August 17 and compares with price peaks near $95 per barrel at the end of last week.

Reports in The New York Times that the Trump administration is about to restaff embassies in the Middle East - interpreted as meaning it is not expecting another major war - are putting downward pressure on global energy prices in Tuesday's trading. The newspaper refers to a document from the US State Department.

Long-term market interest rates are following suit, while stock market sentiment is rising, which is evident in an upward trend in futures trading ahead of Tuesday's trading on Wall Street.
