The car magazine Carup reports on a gas station in Älmhult in Småland where a liter of gasoline now costs 13.37 kronor and a liter of diesel 14.59 kronor.
According to the newspaper, the price of gasoline and diesel at large staffed gas stations was reduced by 10 öre on Tuesday morning.
The price drop is an effect of the crude oil price falling to its lowest level since the fall of 2021. A barrel of North Sea oil (Brent) now costs $60.
Several factors
A possible peace in Ukraine could see Russian oil flowing into an already well-supplied market. Oil traders are now speculating on a peace between Russia and Ukraine, which could lead to the US lifting sanctions on the Russian oil industry.
But the possible peace is only one of several factors that affect the price of oil and, by extension, the price of gasoline.
Another factor is that the economy is still significantly weak. The third factor is that the United States is the world's largest country in terms of crude oil production and they continue to produce a lot of oil. At the same time, there is a lot of spare capacity in the OPEC countries, says Christian Kopfer, commodities analyst at Handelsbanken.
Strong crown
Overall, it is a matter of high supply and low demand, according to Kopfer. When it comes to Swedish gasoline prices, there is also another factor that affects them.
When it comes to fuel prices, there is another effect of the dollar being weak against the krona. The fact that the krona has strengthened against the dollar in recent weeks is directly affecting fuel prices, says Christian Kopfer.
This year alone, the world market price of crude oil has fallen by almost 20 percent, measured in dollars. The fall in Swedish kronor is even greater.
