Oil companies operating in Norwegian waters are increasing their planned investments for 2026 by 6.7 billion Norwegian kroner, to 255 billion kroner, according to Statistics Norway (SSB). However, that is still a slowdown of 6.5 percent compared with investments in 2025.

Initial estimates for investments in 2027 are even lower, at NOK 201 billion. This would represent a 21 percent drop in investments in the sector compared to the forecast for 2026.

"The lack of new large deposits means that the estimates for 2027 will not be highlighted as much in future surveys, as was the case with 2026," writes major bank SEB in a comment on the figures.
