Oil crisis affects American and United Airlines, cancels flights

According to the company, this represents approximately five percent of all flights; United Airlines flies to over 300 destinations globally.

The price of oil has surged to over $100 a barrel in recent weeks, and SAS has previously announced similar measures. If prices continue at this level, United CEO Scott Kirby estimates that United's fuel costs will increase by $11 billion this year.

According to the company, however, there are no plans for any personnel cuts.
